Go2Group JaM Plugin, Use Case Scenario

The Test and Development phases of the software development life cycle process are seen as key indicators to the success and efficiency of a product being available to the general public on time. Since these two teams are normally using two different systems, communication disruptions and delays can create a bottleneck in updating test defects and development issues.

The following use case displays the results of using the Go2Group JaM Plugin:

  • A tighter collaboration process
  • Reduction in "down" time
  • Knowledge share between disparate teams
  • A merging of two different workflows to complete a project on time

The Software Team creates a requirement in Quality Center.

Once the requirements is created, the Test Team then creates a test plan. The test plan is then associated with the related requirements in Quality Center. The test plan is then selected from the test plan tree, from the specific requirement.

The Test Team then creates a test set, then adds the the plan to the test set.

The Test Team runs the test set and discovers a defect. The defect is created in Quality Center, which is then synced to JIRA.

The defect is synced to a specific project in JIRA, and an issue is created. The created issue includes the related Quality Center information - Requirements, Defects, Test Cases.

Using JIRA, the Development Team receives the issue based on assignee polices, then reviews the linked Quality Center information. The Development Team transitions issue status to In Progress, and begins to fix the issue. During their review and work, the Development Team can collaborate with the Test Team using the comment field - the Test Team contributes to the collaboration by providing comments within Quality Center. These comments are replicated between JIRA and Quality Center.

The Development Team fixes the issue and updates the issue status within JIRA.

The Test Team reviews the updated defect, retests the defect with the updated changes, resulting in a pass result. The Test Team then transitions the defect to a closed state. The updated defect is synced with JIRA to ensure the status remains closed in both environments.
